Choosing the Right Hallway Rug
A hallway rug shouldn’t be too thick or too narrow. But should you choose a rectangular or round rug? Here are a few useful tips for selecting the perfect hallway rug:
1. Don’t choose a rug that’s too narrow
Always select a rug that fits the space. Ideally, the rug should leave 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) of visible floor space between the rug and the walls. If your entryway is more open and spacious rather than narrow, a round rug can work beautifully to create a welcoming atmosphere.
2. Choose a durable material
Hallway rugs are designed to withstand heavy wear and resist dirt. Natural materials such as sisal and jute are strong and long-lasting. Synthetic fibers like polyamide or polypropylene are also excellent options thanks to their durability and easy maintenance.
3. Make sure the rug has the right thickness
Keep in mind that doors must open freely. A rug that’s too thick can block the door from opening properly, so it’s important to choose one with an appropriate pile height for your entryway.
4. Consider underfloor heating
If your hallway has underfloor heating, make sure not to cover the entire floor with a rug. Leaving some areas uncovered allows the heat to circulate freely and keeps the space comfortably warm. Explore our collection rugs suitable for underfloor heating.
5. Make sure your hallway rug stays securely in place
The hallway is one of the busiest areas in your home, so it’s important to ensure your rug doesn’t slip or move around. Many hallway rugs come with a rubber backing that naturally keeps them firmly in place. If your rug doesn’t have a non-slip base, place a rug gripper underneath or anchor the rug by setting furniture, like the front legs of a console table, on top of it. This will help keep it steady and safe.
